Each of MI’s scoring centers maintains a pool of hundreds of Reader/Evaluators who are trained to score essays, open-ended test items, and performance assessments based on scoring criteria that differ by project. It is temporary, project-by-project work, and our need is greatest from January through June and to a lesser extent from September through November. We offer paid training and a professional yet relaxed working atmosphere. Test content areas vary, so if you earned a four-year college degree in any field, yesterday or decades ago, chances are, we need you!
Many projects require readers to score essays for content, organization, grammatical convention, etc. Some projects involve scoring test items in math, science, social studies, or other areas. Projects may involve paper-and-pencil tests, scanned responses displayed on a computer screen, or video recordings of examinees performing a task. The tests come from many different states and from students at all grade levels, elementary through college, and professionals.
Each project has its own scoring criteria; therefore, we conduct paid training at the beginning of each project. Readers must be able to accept and use the required scoring procedure and maintain consistent and reliable scoring throughout the project. They also must be willing to operate in a repetitive task situation and maintain confidentiality. Due to our clients' security concerns, all scoring occurs at our offices, where all related materials must remain.
