Education World provides a variety of lessons that will keep students busy all month
They can go on a treasure hunt, study poetry by Langston Hughes, or learn more about Brown v. Board of Education. Even better, many of these activities can be built upon. For instance, recipes and music clips are featured at the bottom of the page. These could be used as springboards for essays, with students using the music clips as sources in a historical piece or researching recipes to discover how food plays a role in black culture.

On the NEA website lesson plans, activities, and background resources can be found (broken down by subjects like Social Studies and the Arts, and sorted by grade level). This is perhaps one of the most comprehensive educational databases focusing on Black History Month.
If you're looking for books to add to your reading list this month
Forbes has compiled a list of the ten most-read African-American authors, which features the names of poets and novelists and also highlights little known facts about each one. More authors and their biographies can be found on Biography.com.
